Team members
Dr. Matt Hille
Dr. Matt Hille is a diagnostic pathologist at the Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center and an extension veterinarian with Nebraska Extension. His clinical experience is largely in cow/calf and feedlot medicine of beef cattle. Dr. Hille’s research interests are on infectious diseases and immunology of cattle. Dr. Hille received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Wyoming, a DVM degree from Iowa State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska.
Dr. Brian Vander Ley
Dr. Brian Vander Ley conducts research and extension outreach activities at the Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center (GPVEC). His work benefits livestock producers and veterinarians, as well as veterinary students who make electives at GPVEC part of their clinical electives.
Dr. Vander Ley's primary interest is to enhance beef cattle production sustainability by improving animal health and performance at all levels of production. His research focuses on bovine respiratory disease, developmental programming and preventative health measures in beef cattle.
Dr. Rebecca Funk
Dr. Rebecca Funk teaches elective veterinary student rotations at the Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center (GPVEC) and statewide extension activities focusing on animal health and production management for both producers and veterinary practitioners. Her primary interest is in production system management—helping producers and veterinary practitioners utilize sound science-based information to make decisions about animal health programs, husbandry and management protocols, and nutrition in order to be successful in the beef industry.
Dr. Lindsay Waechter-Mead
Dr. Lindsay Waechter-Mead holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and master's degree in veterinary science She has worked extensively with livestock producers through Nebraska Extension Her expertise spans herd health, producer education and on-the-ground collaboration with ranchers and feedlot operators. She is the director of the Beef Quality Assurance program in Nebraska. In this role, she oversees statewide training and certifcation for beef producers while collaborating with industry partners and Nebraska Extension specialists to promote animal health, welfare and beef quality.
