Poultry biosecurity programs

POULTRY BIOSECURITY PROGRAMS

Big Red Biosecurity provides three programs to help you understand biosecurity, establish a biosecurity program for your operation, and evaluate an established biosecurity program according to the 14 biosecurity principles identified in the National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP).

Begin with the training modules

Six biosecurity training modules explain the basic concepts of disease and biosecurity in a way that's easy to understand even if the topics are new to you. The information is specific to poultry and applies to all types—chickens, turkeys, gamebirds, showbirds, backyard flocks, etc.— and any size of operation.

Each module is a video approximately 40 minutes long.

Module 1: Terms, definitions and concepts
Module 2: Develop and evaluate a biosecurity plan
Module 3: Biosecurity practices and principles for poultry (Part I)
Module 4: Biosecurity practices and principles for poultry (Part II)
Module 5: Biosecurity practices and principles for poultry (Part III)
Module 6: Raising healthy poultry

Who should participate?

Owners, operators, farm staff and family members—everyone involved in raising and caring for the flock—as well as feed and fuel truck drivers, crews who clean out buildings, those who provide vaccinations or anyone else who frequently visits multiple farms.

Fee

The biosecurity training modules are free to watch online.

Earn a Biosecurity Training Certificate

A Big Red Biosecurity Certificate of Completion documents that you have received biosecurity training specific poultry and have demonstrated an understanding of biosecurity best management practices.

To earn the certificate, you'll first complete the biosecurity training modules on your own. Once you are comfortable with the information in the modules, you'll have a one-on-one conversation with a trained representative from the Big Red Biosecurity Program  who will verify that you understand the concepts presented and how to apply them to a biosecurity program for your operation.

If you don't have a biosecurity plan, you'll now have the tools needed to develop one, and a trained representative from the Big Red Biosecurity Program will be available to answer any questions you have. If you do have a plan, this is the perfect time to review and update it if needed.

Who should participate

Owners, operators, managers and staff will benefit the most from earning a biosecurity training certificate that demonstrates an understanding of biosecurity practices.

Fee
